Sodium bentonite has strong adsorption, excellent deodorization, swelling and encapsulation. Compared with calcium-based bentonite cat litter, sodium-based bentonite cat litter is more firm and less likely to generate dust. Therefore, sodium-based bentonite cat litter has always been considered as the best raw material for bentonite cat litter.
Bentonite is hygroscopic and can absorb 8 to 15 times the volume of water. After absorbing water, it expands, and it can expand several times, up to more than 30 times. Organic cementing materials such as bentonite and rubber can form water-swellable rubber with a maximum expansion rate of 250%-500%. The water-swellable rubber can be made into water-swellable waterstops and other waterproof materials. When it is seamed, it expands when it encounters water, which plays the role of absorbing water and stopping water.
Bentonite can also be directly added to rubber to make the rubber flame retardant, insulating and wear-resistant. Bentonite clay is also added to stationery erasers.
In some engineering construction processes, bentonite is often added to cement. It generally has two functions: anti-leakage, water-retaining thickener.
